Small Animal Resuscuition

Dr. Erin Troy DVM

General Information
Through a generous donation by the Pleasant Hill Lions Club and with the help of Doctor Erin Troy of the Muller Veterinary Clinic the District has Small Animal Resuscitation Kits. These kits contain five different sizes of masks that when used with a standard bag valve mask can be used to resuscitate a dog or cat that has become a victim of smoke inhalation at the scene of a structure fire.

Fire agencies can order pet resuscitation kits through the Canine Rehabilitation Center in Walnut Creek California, founded by Dr. Troy with an experienced business manager and an active fire chief officer to offer this service to your department and community.

The Masks
The masks work with standard Bag Valve resuscitators and are available in a variety of sizes to work with small to large mammals. They can be obtained from any veterinarian or veterinarian supply reseller. The masks are reusable after a certain amount of cleaning. The District carries them on all Quint companies as well as a Rescue company and an Engine company. The deployment plan was to ensure at least one kit arrived on the scene of any working fire.
