In 2009, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District was dispatched to 44,606 calls for service, of which 70% were EMS calls. Our nationally recognized communications center provides dispatch services for the East Contra Costa, Moraga-Orinda, Crockett-Carquinez, Rodeo-Hercules Fire Protection Districts, and the City of Pinole Fire Department. In our Fire Prevention Bureau, staff reviewed more than 3,200 building plans in 2009, to ensure compliance with fire codes.
The vast amount of open space throughout the District presents potential for wildland and urban interface fires, where many homes and structures border on open space. Every spring, in preparation for wildland fire season, fire district workers maintain 470 miles of fire trails and inspect thousands of parcels of land for fire risk. |

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Residential Fire Sprinklers Required in All New Dwellings Starting January 1, 2011
On January 1, 2011, new regulations in the State of California will take effect that mandate the installation of fire sprinklers in all new one- and two-family dwellings and townhomes. Working in conjunction with the smoke alarms in your home, fire sprinklers protect you and your family from fire, allowing you to get out of your home safely, often times reducing the fire damage to your home.
