Thank you for visiting the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District website.

If you live or work in, or regularly pass through Contra Costa County, chances are we are your “fire department.” Our district, a recognized fire service leader and one of the largest in the state, provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to more than one million residents in 19 cities and several defined unincorporated areas across our 716.9 square miles-square-mile jurisdiction. Through our unique ambulance alliance, we also provide 911 emergency ambulance transport services to the residents of the county. In 2023, our ambulances provided more than 70,000 transports.

Our fire district has experienced expansion since July of 2022. 2023 was marked by new beginnings as it was the first full calendar year following the annexation of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District and included the start of a service contract for all aspects of fire, EMS, rescue, and fire prevention services to the city of Pinole. Within our EMS division, we introduced a tiered ambulance response model to more effectively respond to system demand and cope with increasing hospital patient offload delays.

In 2023, engine-based paramedic service was implemented in all the communities in the former East Contra Costa service area. We opened and staffed several new companies from fire station 74 in Pinole, fire station 86 in Bay Point, fire station 81 in Antioch, and fire station 92 in Brentwood. This resulted in two new engine companies, the first staffed ladder truck in Brentwood, and the district’s first staffed rescue company! 2023 also marked the first full calendar year of staffing our hand crew through the entire twelve-month period to focus on fuel mitigation and hazard reduction work during the winter months.

Our amazing men and women, serving throughout every facet of our organization, continue to raise the bar of professional service to our county and the communities we protect.

The members of our district take pride in providing service throughout our full-service, all hazards organization. Whether it be fire prevention, fire investigation, our regional fire and EMS communications center, our training and safety division, administration, support services, and our apparatus shop, or the myriad of specialty programs provided through our emergency operations section, our members are dedicated to their professional development and the continued success of Con Fire. We are here to serve you and I appreciate you taking the time to visit our website to learn more about how we provide exceptional service to our communities.
