Wildfire Mitigation Program

Con Fire is managing this innovative new program, funded by Measure X dollars, offering Contra Costa Residents the opportunity to identify and apply for projects that will reduce our overall exposure to wildfire risk county-wide.

If you are aware of any of these types of wildfire risks and would like to propose a Measure X-funded project to mitigate them, please complete the form at the link at left for consideration by our team of fire prevention specialists.

The Contra Costa County Wildfire Mitigation Program is a program that is funded through Measure X and available throughout Contra Costa County. It is designed to fund the following types of projects and programs:

Community Chipping Days

Community chipping days are available to Firewise Communities or neighborhoods with at least ten homes participating in these fuel reduction efforts.

Evacuation Route Cleanups

Evacuation route clean up focuses on maintaining fire access routes and fire trails in our highest wildfire threat areas.

Firewise USA Community Strategic Plan Projects

Firewise USA is a national program helping neighbors work together with their local fire jurisdiction to protect their communities from wildfire danger. For more information on the Firewise USA program, please click here.

Low Income Exterior Hazard Control Program

Removal of Dead Trees

Requests for removal of dead trees located in common or open spaces that are endangering structures. This must be a community approach in a designated area with compliance to defensible space and exterior hazard standards.

Shaded Fuel Breaks

Shaded fuel breaks are used to reduce dangerous fuels that spread wildfire. Trees in the areas of a shaded fuel break are maintained to reduce the potential spread of fire while the tree canopy reduces future growth of brush and other vegetation. This must be a community selected area that benefits a neighborhood or community.

Vegetation Management and Fuel Reduction

Vegetation management and fuel reduction focuses on treating, clearing, or reducing debris and other types of combustible fuels to prevent or slow the spread of fire. This must be a community approach in a designated area with compliance to defensible space and exterior hazard standards.
