Lewis T. Broschard III serves as fire chief of Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, one of largest fire districts in the state, serving much of Contra Costa County.

Fire Chief Broschard has a fire service career spanning more than 29 years in small and large fire service organizations.  His experience includes positions of responsibility in emergency operations, fire prevention, and executive leadership.  

Since joining Contra Costa County Fire Protection District in October 2007, he has served as fire inspector, fire prevention captain, fire marshal, assistant fire chief, deputy fire chief, and now holds the position of fire chief.

Broschard is a member of the East Bay Incident Management Team. From 2011 to 2013, he served as president of the Contra Costa County Fire Chiefs Association. As deputy chief, he served as Fire/Rescue Operational Area Coordinator for Contra Costa County. He is a member of the California Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association. 

Broschard holds a bachelor of science in managerial economics from the University of California, Davis and a master’s of business administration from JFK University. He is also a California State Association of Counties Credentialed County Executive and certified by the Office of the State Fire Marshal as a fire prevention officer, fire officer, and chief officer.  

Broschard has been married for more than 20 years and is the father of 16-year-old twin sons.
